The opinions of the residents of the municipality of Gračanica about employment in health institutions that function according to the Serbian system are divided.

Some believe that the injustice is obvious and that those with connections get the job, while others believe that such a practice has always existed.

A group of disgruntled citizens has been protesting in front of the Health Centers in Gračanica, Ugljar and Donja Gušterica for two weeks because of the results of the competition for hiring temporary workers in these health facilities.

The citizens we talked to state that they believe there is injustice, but add that the struggle for a job in the system is often connected to personal interests and connections.

"People were accepted as they had whom. I don't know what they were looking at. In my opinion, the most realistic thing is that if they were hired through the Employment Office, the people would never have anything to complain about," said an elderly lady.

"Someone is right, some is not. Those who got it are happy, those who didn't, this sun can't warm everyone. I'm sorry for the children who don't work, but what can be done, you can't lift someone up so that someone else can sit down. Maybe there is injustice, it's everywhere and it always has been. If this one is admitted now, the other one will protest tomorrow," said a resident of Gračanica.

"I don't know what to say. Somehow, the institutions have closed, education and healthcare remain, and everyone needs a job. I understand the people who are protesting, but also those who got a job because we don't even know who got a job. They certainly need a job, and maybe they have been waiting for it for years," said the passer-by.

One of the interlocutors shared a personal example with the Kim Radio team.

"There is something illegal. My daughter's husband died, she has two sons. When I retired, another man was accepted in my place," he said.

He added that he follows the protests in Belgrade more, and that he is less interested in local events.

When asked if the protests mean that people have finally decided to rebel against local powerful people who are abusing their positions, the answers are also not unequivocal.

"Listening to their (participant in the protest) conversations, it comes to him that way, but everyone is fighting for someone to help them to reach their goal. I really don't know if they are correct or not, I didn't need it," said a resident of the municipality of Gračanica.

"Well, yes. It is certain that, after applying, they approached the local officials and they promised them, that's why they are angry with them now," said a passing girl.

"Yes, probably so," added her fellow citizen curtly.

"They should rebel against the president of the municipality of Lipljan and the president of the municipality of Pristina. Those municipalities do not exist at all, and they only receive a salary," one gentleman pointed out.

However, most of the citizens we tried to talk to did not want to comment on this topic, explaining that they are not sufficiently informed about the events.
