Three persons of Serbian nationality suspected of war crimes were arrested

Three people were arrested on Monday on suspicion of having committed war crimes against the civilian population as guards in prisons in Pristina and Lipjan.

The Kosovo police stated that these persons are suspected of participating in the mistreatment, beating, physical and psychological torture of detained Albanians.

As stated in the police statement, the male suspect BT and the female N.Č were initially arrested in Lipljan at two separate locations.

In the continuation of the operational activities in Pristina, it is stated that the third MI suspect was also located and arrested

"The same persons are suspected of the criminal offense of war crimes against the civilian population committed during 1998-1999 in prisons in Pristina and Lipljan. As guards-correctional officers of the KPZ in Pristina and KPZ in Lipljan, they participated in mistreatment and torture, physical beatings and psychological torture of Albanians," the Kosovo police said in a statement.

On the occasion of this incident, the Acting Minister of Internal Affairs of Kosovo, Dzheljalj Svečlja, announced that this will be the fate of all those who committed crimes in Kosovo.

He confirmed that these three people are suspects in the events in the prisons.

"The crimes of Serbia committed during the war in Kosovo will not go unpunished. As institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, we will support all state mechanisms to ensure that justice is carried out," said Svečlja.

He emphasized that he will not stop until the last person responsible is brought to justice.
